EW Poe 1998 (Kzoo ) "What we call small a is a late-sixteenth-century copy of the now lost chansonnier of Bernart Amoros, which had been compiled in Auvergne in the late thirteenth century. The copy was commissioned by an Italian humanist collector Piero del Nero but was mostly carried out by someone named Jacques de Tarascon. In accordance with Piero's instructions, Jacques omitted any texts that duplicated those already contained in Piero's library, but he also left out any texts he couldn't read, and that, unfortunately, was the case with Per amor mesbaudi et chant. So, Peire de Maensac's name appears in the register of small a but within the body of the codex, in the place where we would expect to find a poem or poems by Peire de Maensac, there is nothing but an incipit written by Jacques de Tarascon, with an explanatory note about the omission in the hand of Piero del Nero.";
