He became Count of Barcelona in 1162, King of Aragon (under the name of Alfonso II) in 1164, Count of Provence in 1166 (after the death of his cousin Raimon Berenger III 1162-08-06), and died 1196 [BS 526n1]; he visited the Midi many times, Provence in 1167 and 1174, Lang in 1179, Carcass-Toul in 1181, 1186, 1193, Perpignan where he died in 1196; BS p526 n1 his father Raimon-Berenger married Petronille, only daughter of King Ramiro II of Aragon; the kingdom of Aragon passed to him, but he never called himself king of Aragon; Raimon Berenger died 1162/08/06; Aurell 1989:33 au moins 17 troubadours ont profité de son mécenat, en deça et au-delà des Pyrénées; Hoepffner 1955:100 "en 1181 le roi Alphonse II d'Aragon se préparait à envahir les domaines du comte Raimon V de Toulouse, avec lequel il était en guerre pour la possession de la Provence"; BEdT 1999/07/27 generazione 3= 1170-1210; BSp464 mort 1196/04/25; BEdT 2007-04-22 Alfonso II re d'Aragona, conte di Barcellona e Provenza. L'identificazione è a rigore ipotetica e non certa per la tenzone con Giraut de Borneill, 242,022, dal momento che l'indicazione in rubrica "Guirautz de borneill el reis daragon" (così ad esempio in °K) può individuare anche il figlio Pietro II.
